FAQ
Some general questions regarding Preemies and Kaitrin's Klub
Q: Why was Kaitrin's Klub started?
A: Because our family has been through the experience of having a preemie, we wanted to share our ups and downs, our good and bad, and hopefully help another family through this stressful time. Once Kaitrin was discharged from the hospital, we realized that many medical costs were not covered by our insurance and the costs that were - the co-pays and deductibles were high. Also, because of the level of our income, we were not eligible for medicare, medicaid, or social security. Many families of preemies have come across the same financial issues...and we want to help!
Q: What is the difference between the March of Dimes and Kaitrin's Klub?
A: The March of Dimes collects money to help in the prevention of premature births. Kaitrin's Klub collects money to help families after the birth of a preemie.
Q: How do we apply for aide? A: For monetary aide, please use the Contact Us form.
Q: Why are the medical costs so high? A: When infants are born too early they are in Intensive Care. The care that is needed in these situations can be very costly. In addition to the hospitalization costs, preemies that are born very early have therapy, medical equipment, and medications that they need to keep them healthy.
Q: How early in the pregnancy are preemies? A: Infants that are born less than 32 weeks gestation are considered very preterm.
Infants that are born less than 37 weeks gestation are considered preterm.
Pregnancies last 40 weeks.
The earliest preemie on record is 22 weeks gestation.
